With Christian County’s baseball loss in the region championship game last week, the Colonels’ athletic programs as we have known them since 1959, are no more.
Christian County High School and Hopkinsville High School will consolidate in the 2026-27 school year to make the Christian County Tigers.
Christian County Public Schools Superintendent Chris Bentzel was a guest on the Early Bird Show Monday morning and said the next step is to hire the spring coaches for the new school.
The community will get its first look at the Christian County Tigers and Lady Tigers Monday night at the Summer Shootout at Lyle Dunbar Gym and the Planters Bank/Jennie Stuart Sportsplex.
Bentzel said he was excited to see the new teams on the court this week.
Bentzel said there will be two boys’ varsity, a JV, and a freshman team competing in the event.
The Summer Shootout runs tonight, Tuesday night, and Wednesday night at Lyle Dunbar Gym, Christian County Middle School, and the Sportsplex.
