Fort Campbell officials are remembering a soldier shot to death early Saturday morning at a gathering near Olmstead in Logan County.
Specialist Joshua Burks was a soldier in the 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment—he had previously enlisted in the army for San Jose in 2020 as a signal support systems specialist and attend One Station Unit Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Upon complete, he was assigned to Fort Cordon, Georgia and attended Advanced Individual Training, and from there was assigned to Fort Campbell.
Burks’ awards and decoration include the National Defense Service Medical, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
Battalion Commander Edmund Guy III says, “Saturday morning, we lost a valued member of our formation. The entire team shares in the sorrow and grief felt by his family and loved ones. We must not forget the valuable contributions Specialist Burks made to his country and the impact he had on those around him in our unit.”
The shooting happened at a gathering on Kenny Stratton Road around 3:30 a.m. Saturday and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the scene and requested for KSP to investigate.
Burks’ body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville for autopsy, according to Givens.
