Pennyrile Electric prepared for ice storm

Pennyrile Electric has been preparing for the ice storm forecasters say will hit western Kentucky Thursday, while hoping there will not be any major issues.

Brent Gilkey with the cooperative that serves all or portions of nine counties in western Kentucky says they’ve been reviewing their emergency response plan and fueling up all of their trucks.

He says power lines are designed to handle up to a quarter-inch of ice accumulation.

Trees can also fall onto power lines and cause outages during ice storms and Gilkey says gusty winds in the forecast could also make problems worse.

It’s important for families to have a plan in place for if the power goes out and Gilkey says never run a generator indoors as the results could be fatal with carbon monoxide poisoning.
