The Hoptown Hoppers will face the suddenly hot Fulton Railroaders in a best-of-three Ohio Valley League semifinal series beginning Friday night at Tiger Field.
The Railroaders, who finished last in the OVL standings with an 11-27 record, swept past third seed Full Count 9-5 Tuesday night at Lohaus Field.
The Fulton win moves the Railroaders into the semifinals against the second-seeded Hoppers. The first game of the series is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday night at Tiger Field. Airtime is at 6:15 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
Meanwhile, the fourth-seed Paducah Chiefs staved off elimination last night as they held off host and fifth seed Madisonville 7-6 in 10 innings. The two teams meet in an elimination game tonight at 6:30 at Brooks Stadium. The winner advances to play top seed Henderson in their semifinal series at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Meanwhile, Paducah Chiefs pitcher Caysen Mitchell was named the Gordon Guess Most Valuable Pitcher on Tuesday. Mitchell went 3-1 with a 0.42 ERA in 32 2/3 innings of work.
A native of Bardwell, Mitchell will play at Brescia University next season.
