Numerous agencies responded to a house fire in Lyon County Tuesday morning, resulting in the rescue of numerous pets.
The call came in at approximately 8:30 a.m., with the Eddyville Fire Department responding to the scene of a structure fire on Cantrell Road. Upon arrival, they called for mutual aid, and the Kuttawa Volunteer Fire Department, Princeton Fire Department, Lyon County EMS, Eddyville Police Department, Lyon County Emergency Management, Kentucky Utilities, Lyon County Animal Control, the American Red Cross, and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office all responded.
Thanks to working smoke detectors in the home, the residents were able to safely evacuate before the blaze grew too large, though firefighters learned that several dogs remained inside. While crews worked to extinguish the blaze, firefighters made their way inside and were able to rescue to the animals.
EMS and firefighters worked together to provide emergency care to the dogs who were showing signs of smoke inhalation, until animal control arrived and transported them to a local veterinarian for medical treatment.
It’s expected that many of the dogs will make a full recovery, with one dog still in critical condition.
The fire was brought under control with no injuries to any humans. The American Red Cross was called to help the family, who were displaced by the fire.
