On Thursday night, Heritage Christian traveled to Christian Co. for an 8th district boys/girls basketball doubleheader.
Both outcomes were similar in the fact that they were blowouts, and provided both Christian Co. teams the chance to play their younger players for a majority of the game.
Girls’ Game
In the girls’ game Christian Co. won 72-12. The game started off with a 22-3 lead for the Lady Colonels and after that Coach Radford decided to pull her majority of her starting lineup for the rest of the game.
For those first 22 points, they all came from Anaysia Bagwell with 12 and Lazarie Daniel with 10.
However, Xiyonna Reid ended up leading Christian Co. in scoring with 13 points.
For Heritage Christian, Kate St. Martin had 7 while Rachel Robson finished with 5.
Next up for Christian Co. will be on Saturday hosting Hopkins Co. Central and Heritage Christian will be on the road next Friday at Community Christian (Paducah).
Boys’ Game
As far as the boys’ game, Christian Co. beat Heritage Christian 72-22 in a game where the Colonels used defensive tenacity from the jump.
Christian Co. started off with a full-court press and put Jasean Riley on Heritage Christian’s primary ballhandler and leading scorer Jason Leek.
Leek averaged 23.5 points per game but right before Riley was given the rest of the night off late in the third quarter, Leek only had 2 points.
As far as scoring Derrell Bateman led the Colonels with 26 points to include a 10-10 night at the free throw line.
For the Warriors, Leek was able to boost his scoring a bit and led the team with 9 points.
Next up for Heritage Christian, they’ll host PACHEK, a team they beat last week, next Tuesday.
For Christian Co. they’ll have two games on Saturday in Evansville, Indiana taking on Evansville Christian in the morning and Evansville Reitz in the evening.
