>>Celtics Avoid Elimination, Force Game Six

 

(Undated)  — The Boston Celtics avoided elimination once again with a big win in Game Five of the Eastern Conference Finals.  Boston defeated the Miami Heat 110-97 at TD Garden to trim Miami’s series lead to one game.  Jayson Tatum totaled 21 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds in the win.  The Heat hold a 3-2 series lead as the series shifts back to Miami for Game Six tomorrow night.  The winner of the East will take on the Western Conference champion Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals, which start on June 1st.

 

>>Dallas Stars Stay Alive In Western Conference Final

 

(Undated)  — The Dallas Stars are staying alive in the Stanley Cup playoffs.  Dallas edged the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 in overtime in Game Four behind a game winning goal from Joe Pavelski.  The Stars avoided a four-game sweep in the Western Conference Final and forced a Game Five, which will take place tomorrow night in Las Vegas.  The winner of the series will move on to face the Florida Panthers in this year’s Stanley Cup Final.  Florida swept the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final to reach its first Stanley Cup since 1996.

 

>>Rob Manfred: Owners Could Vote On A’s Move In June

 

(Las Vegas, NV)  — Major League Baseball could be voting on the Oakland Athletics’ potential move to Las Vegas next month.  League commissioner Rob Manfred said on Thursday that the owners could vote on the move when they meet in mid-June in New York.  Manfred added that there is a “relocation process internally they need to go through, and we haven’t even started that process.”  The A’s are currently planning to build a 30-thousand seat stadium on the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip.  The team hopes to open the venue ahead of the 2027 season.

(Fort Worth, TX)  — Harry Hall is sitting atop the leaderboard after the opening round of the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.  Hall finished the first day of the tournament shooting an eight under 62.  He leads the field by three strokes.  Harris English is currently in second place at five under par.  Several other players are tied for third place.  Adam Schenk, Andrew Putnam, Tom Hoge and Robby Shelton are all four under par.  Dylan Frittelli, Emiliano Grillo and Troy Merritt will be among the first group of players teeing off the second round of the tournament.

 

>>Denny Hamlin Aims For Second Straight Win In Charlotte

 

(Charlotte, NC)  — The NASCAR Cup series continues this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Denny Hamlin is aiming to defend his Coca-Cola 600 title after winning the race last season.  Hamlin has 17 Top-10 finishes in his last 21 Charlotte oval starts and is currently fourth in the Cup series standings.  Kyle Larson is coming off a win last weekend in the NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway.  Ross Chastain, Christopher Bell, Kevin Harvick, Hamlin and William Byron currently round of the top five in the standings. The green flag waves from Charlotte on Sunday.

 

 

>>French Open Gets Underway On Sunday

 

(Paris)  — The top tennis players in the world are meeting on the clay courts at the French Open this weekend.  On the men’s side, Carlos Alcaraz earned the top seed in the field and could be clashing with third-seeded Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.  Daniil Medvedev opens as the second seed in a field that will be without reigning champion Rafael Nadal for the first time since 2004.  On the women’s side, Iga Swiatek [[ Shvee-ON-tek ]] will be looking to defend her title as the top seed in this year’s tournament.  Runner-up Coco Gauff is the sixth seed and is the second-highest seeded American behind number-three Jessica Pegula.
