Republican candidate for State Treasurer talks goals, vision for the office

A hopeful candidate running for Kentucky State Treasurer made a stop in Hopkinsville Friday.

OJ Oleka is running as a Republican for the seat currently held by Allison Ball, who has announced that she will be running for State Auditor.  Speaking with WHOP News, Oleka says he is a product of the American dream—the son of two immigrants—and he wants to work as Treasurer to keep that dream alive for all Kentuckians.

He has served as a deputy treasurer for several years under Treasurer Ball and he says he would work to keep the good work they’ve done going, focusing on protecting tax payer dollars, promoting financial literacy, maintaining transparency and more.

One specific goal he has, if elected, would be to cut down on the amount of physical checks they send out and transition to do that electronically—that alone could save the office around $3 million.

Oleka says he wants to show people that they have a candidate they can have confidence in, that they know is qualified and knows how to get the job done while responsibly handling their money.

Oleka is facing two others on the May primary ballot in Andrew Cooperrider and Mark Metcalfe.  Whoever wins in the primary will go on to face democratic challenger Michael Bowman.
