Former daycare director formally sentenced

One of the women convicted by a jury in relation to abuse at First United Methodist Church was formally sentenced in Christian Circuit Court Friday.

Abby Leach, the former daycare director, had been found guilty of six counts of criminal abuse in the 2nd degree and two counts of criminal abuse in the 3rd degree at trial earlier this month.  A jury at that time recommended sentence of one year for each of the six felonies, to run concurrently for a total of one year.

According to court officials, at final sentencing that one year sentence was probated for five years, with Leach having to serve 45 days in jail. She has 30 remaining to serve as of Friday, and will serve that sentence on weekends until the 30 days is completed. In turn, Leach waives her right to any appeal.

She also has to pay a $125 fine for the two misdemeanor counts.

Former employee Allison Simpson was convicted last year of 12 counts of first-degree criminal abuse and 12 counts of third-degree criminal child abuse. Nina Morgan was convicted of one count of criminal abuse in the third-degree, a misdemeanor.

Former pastor Paige Williams was found guilty of eight counts of criminal abuse in the 3rd degree, which are misdemeanors and was ordered to pay a $500 fine.
