Unusually warm January temperatures can often mean the threat of severe weather and that will be the case Wednesday afternoon and evening in Western Kentucky.
Most of the region is under a slight risk for severe weather Wednesday and while tornadoes will not be out of the question, Meteorologist Justin Gibbs with the National Weather Service in Paducah says damaging straight-line winds appear to be the largest threat in Western Kentucky.
It’s possible the region could avoid severe weather completely if enough instability doesn’t develop.
Flash flooding will be possible across the entire region, as heavy rain will accompany the storms and some areas could see multiple rounds.
Severe storms and heavy rain will be most likely in the late afternoon and evening hours.
A cold front will bring additional rain to the area Sunday and then temperatures should feel a little more on the normal side by next week.
