The possibility of trial being delayed in the murder case against Harold Jett was discussed in Trigg Circuit Court Wednesday morning.
Jett, who is accused of killing 71-year-old Mary Dullenty of Cadiz in October of 2021, appeared with his lawyers in front of Judge James Redd, who told the court its likely they will need more time to prepare for trial, due to the counsel being new to the case.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins didn’t necessarily object to a continuance of the trial date, but did say it needs to set again as soon as possible.
Judge Redd did not set a new trial date immediately, instead telling lawyers to prepare as much as they can, and they would see where they stand in March and determine if a new date needs to be set at that time.
As previously reported, the Trigg County Sheriff’s Department received a report of Jett firing a shot from a gun at a vehicle on South Road in Cadiz in October of 2021 and deputies and Cadiz police officers attempted to make contact with him after he fled in a vehicle.
A pursuit led to the home on Hilltop Street, where Jett exited his vehicle and entered a home.
A short time later, Jett exited the residence and was arrested. Deputies then located Dullenty injured inside the home and she was taken to Trigg County Hospital, where she would die from her injuries.
