West, Knight win mayoral primaries; council primary decided by one vote

Hopkinsville City Councilmember Alethea West and local businessman James Knight, Jr. will square off to be mayor of Hopkinsville in November after they won their respective primaries Tuesday.

West won the Democratic primary by 155 votes over Michael Pendleton and believes her record of representing Ward 3 played a large role in gaining enough support to win the nomination.

Knight defeated Vince Farrell by about 350 votes for the GOP nomination and will continue to focus on making Hopkinsville a safer and more vibrant community in the general election campaign.

There could possibly be a recanvass or recount in the Hopkinsville City Council Ward 7 primary, where Doug Wilcox defeated Mark Graham by one vote. Graham says he’ll make a decision on a recanvass or recount sometime Wednesday morning. Wilcox will face Democrat William Coleman in November, if the result holds.

Ward 5 Councilmember Amy Craig was successful in her re-election bid over Anna Norris and Republican Jamie Lienberger defeated Ardell Owens by nine votes and will square off with incumbent Ward 9 Councilmember Patricia Bell in November.
