Three suspects indicted in murder case, one appears in district court

The three suspects charged in connection with October 26 fatal shooting of a man at the intersection of Sharpe and Jones Street in Hopkinsville have been indicted by a Christian County Grand Jury after the alleged shooter appeared Friday morning in Christian District Court.

The grand jury indicted 25-year old Cortez Hairston of Hopkinsville for murder and 23-year old Dekorian Daniel and 24-year old Jaila Sherrod of Hopkinsville for complicity to murder.

Investigation by Hopkinsville police determined Sherrod allegedly drove 23-year old Adrian Acree to the location where Hairston would gun him down. Sherrod and Daniel are also accused of helping in the planning of the murder.

Hairston appeared for arraignment from the jail before District Judge Foster Cotthoff earlier in the morning and Louisville attorney Ted Shouse entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

There will not be a preliminary hearing in district court now, since the grand jury has already acted.

Meanwhile, the grand jury indicted 55-year-old Nora Brinkley-Strickland of Indianapolis, Indiana for attempted first-degree assault (domestic violence) and third-degree terroristic threatening. Police allege that on March 14 in Christian County, Brinkley-Strickland used a knife in an attempt to cause serious injury to a victim.

The grand jury also indicted 37-year old Michael Maurice McGregor of Hopkinsville for first-degree robbery. Hopkinsville police arrested him on March 5 after he allegedly confronted a man over a phone and then assaulted him and took his money when the victim said he didn’t have the phone in question.
