Toddler killed in crash on I-24 Tennessee River Bridge

Kentucky State Police have released details on several weather-related collisions on I-24 in Marshall County from late Wednesday night that killed a toddler and injured at least one other person.

KSP says one of the collisions was a tractor-trailer operated by 33-year old Chabrielle-Darnisha Hester of Dallas, Texas, rear-ending a tractor-trailer driven by 45-year old Quentin Glenn of Monticello, Florida on the Tennessee River bridge at the 30 mm on the westbound side.

An 18-month old passenger in the semi operated by Hester was ejected from the vehicle during the collision. The child was then struck by a car driven by 19-year old Christian Vasallo of Franklin, North Carolina.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marshall County Coroner. The child was not restrained in the vehicle at the time of the collision and police say once the investigation into the collision is complete, it will be presented to a prosecutor for decisions regarding any potential criminal charges.

Another collision in the vicinity involved a cattle trailer, resulting in cattle escaping onto the roadway.

The Gilbertsville Volunteer Fire Department says one of its fire officers was also seriously injured after being caught up in a secondary accident on the bridge, though he is recovering from his injuries at an area hospital.

In all, seven total collisions were reported involving 12 tractor-trailers and six passenger cars in the vicinity of the Tennessee River bridge.

I-24 Westbound remains closed at the 30 mm and both eastbound lanes are open, but are moving slowly.
