Trial date set in North Kentucky Avenue murder case

A trial date has been set for August in the murder and robbery case against Larayna Manning, the woman charged in the 2020 shooting death of Calvin “Cue” Taylor.

The date was set Wednesday afternoon in Christian Circuit Court has both parties wait on DNA evidence testing results to come back from the state, with Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling informing the court that could happen by the end of the month.

Boling made the suggestion that they could move ahead with trials on her other cases—which include charges of drug trafficking and fraudulent theft that are unrelated to the murder case.

Defense attorney Jason Pfiel expressed frustration with the delay, saying his client requested a fast and speedy trial and yet has been waiting for trial for over a year—he requested that her bond be reduced.

Ultimately, Judge Andrew Self denied the request for a bond reduction and set a trial date for August 8, with another pretrial hearing set for April 6.

Manning is charged with murder and first-degree robbery in connection with the fatal shooting of Taylor on North Kentucky Avenue in October of 2020. Drugs, cash and a safe were missing from Taylor’s home when police began the investigation and police say Taylor’s mouth and wrists were duct-taped, indicating there had been a robbery.
