MLB

Major League Baseball owners and players are scheduled to resume talks today to end the lockout that started more than seven weeks ago. Players plan to make a counteroffer for a new collective bargaining agreement that’s expected to call for more liberalized free agency and eligibility for salary arbitration. Players are unhappy with a four-percent drop in payrolls, taking pay back to where it was seven years ago. Both sides are on the clock, with spring training scheduled to start three weeks from Wednesday.
