Ky. passes 8,000 deaths due to COVID-19

Kentucky gained another 5,197 cases of COVID-19 Friday, and passed the grim milestone of 8,000 deaths due to the virus.

That milestone comes due to 32 newly reported deaths, putting that total at 8,003 since the pandemic began—the positivity rate is at 14 percent, down very slightly from the day before. Of the new cases, roughly 1,400 are individuals under the age of 18.

There are currently 2,541 people in the hospital with COVID-19, 698 in ICU and 448 on a ventilator.
