NFL

The Atlanta Falcons are losing their backup quarterback to a season-ending injury. ESPN reports A.J. McCarron has suffered a torn ACL in his right knee and will miss the season for Atlanta. McCarron injured his knee in the second quarter of the Falcon’s preseason game on Saturday. The quarterback signed a one-deal with Atlanta to back up Matt Ryan after spending the past two seasons with the Houston Texans.

NHL

Former New York Ranger and Hockey Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert has died. He was 80. “Mr. Ranger” is the franchise’s all-time leader in goals with 406 and points with 1,021 and became the first player in the NHL to have his number retired at Madison Square Garden.
Gilbert played his entire 18-year career with the New York Rangers and made an appearance in the 1972 Stanley Cup Final.

NASCAR

Ryan Blaney’s number 12 car was the first to cross the finish line in the Fire Keepers Casino 400 at the Michigan International Speedway. Blaney started the race in the three spot. Kyle Larson, who started on the pole, finished in third and William Byron came in second place. Kurt Busch finished fourth and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five. The NASCAR Cup Series moves to Daytona on Saturday.
