State Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke is hoping to work with the state parks system and other local officials to find a solution so the Pennyrile Forest State Park beach can be open to the public at-large on weekends.
The state announced on Thursday that only registered campground and lodging guests will be allowed to use the Pennyrile Forest beach on weekends, effective July 1, due to safety concerns over over-crowding.
Representative Dossett says he’s contacted the cabinet in hopes of bringing together a coalition to discuss what can be done to safely keep the beach open to everyone on weekends.
He acknowledges there are legit safety concerns because over-crowding, but believes there are options available to address those issues and keep the beach open.
Dossett says the over-crowding shows how popular the beach is coming out of the pandemic and he’s going to try and help be part of the solution to keep it open.
Representative Dossett says he’s been encouraged that state parks officials have seemed open and receptive to finding a way to safely open the beach in Northwest Christian County to everyone seven day a week.
The beach will remain open to the general public on weekdays, even after the change July 1.
