Kentucky reports record number of new COVID-19 cases

Kentucky reported a record 979 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday—a day when Kentucky usually sees its lowest total of the week.

Public Health Commissioner, Dr. Steven Stack said that in the interest of accuracy, the state would be reaching out to confirm Sunday’s results with some of the major labs.

Governor Andy Beshear says the record number should be a wake-up call to Kentuckians to follow the health guidelines in place to slow the spread of coronavirus.

Three more Kentuckians died from the virus, bringing the death count since the pandemic began to 670.

Governor Beshear says the plan is in place to stop the spread of the virus, it will just take Kentuckians doing their part.

The governor will do an afternoon briefing every day this week at 3 p.m. and they will be available under the local news tab on our website.

Tennessee gained 1,779 new cases and five deaths Sunday. Montgomery County added 24, Robertson 26 and Stewart County gained seven new cases—one of that county’s largest jumps during the pandemic.
