Christian Count gained only one new case of COVID-19 from Thursday to Friday, but this week has seen the largest number of new cases locally since the pandemic began.
The Christian County Health Department says the increases have been attributed to increased contact within the community as Kentucky phases back into operation.
Health Department Spokesperson Amanda Sweeney says Thursday’s spike of 43 new cases was related to a small outbreak at a worksite in the county, in addition to several non-related clusters within the community. The statistics reported are for Christian County residents only.
While they don’t specify the location of the worksite, the Christian County Health Department recently hosted a large testing event for workers associated with the Oak Grove Racing, Gaming and Hotel construction project.
The one new case Friday brought the total to 226, with 75 cases active and 147 patients recovered. Christian County has had four coronavirus fatalities.
Sweeney says without taking proper precautions and following guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus, there is a very good possibility that the community will continue to see various spikes in cases and possibly additional clusters across the county.
They urge residents to practice healthy hygiene habits such as frequent hand washing, to wear a mask in public places, to try to keep a distance of 6 feet or more between you and others in the community, and to visit a free testing site to get tested for COVID-19.
The Tie Breaker Park testing site is open from 9 until 11 a.m. Monday through Friday.
