Gov. announces 8 new deaths, including nine-month old from Hopkins Co.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced 265 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state during Wednesday’s update, and eight new deaths.

One of the deaths reported is a nine-month old child from Hopkins County, and Governor Beshear says it’s a heart breaking reminder of how this should still be taken seriously.

Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack says the death of the child is still being investigated to determine if COVID-19 was the direct cause of death, as the child tested positive for the virus.

Dr. Stack continues to urge people to remain aware and stick to those standbys of frequent hand washing and social distancing, especially as the economy continues to reopen, as it must.

The 265 new cases puts the total at 10,410 in the Commonwealth. The Governor feels there’s no cause for alarm just yet, as long as the numbers stay within a certain range. He also reported that 3,283 individuals have recovered from the virus.

Dr. Stack says increased testing undoubtedly plays some part in the number increase, as 258,767 people have now been tested—and he feels the data does not show the state in an ‘uptick’ in cases. He says they will continue to monitor the data closely. Eight more Kentuckians, including the nine-month old, have died, bringing that total to 450.

The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting 447 new cases there, bringing the overall total to 24,822 and 388 total deaths.  Montgomery County is at 283 cases, Robertson County is at 516 and Stewart County sits at 13 cases.
