Heavy rain caused problems with flooding across western Kentucky and middle Tennessee Saturday afternoon.

Numerous roadways were closed or covered but passable during the afternoon and evening hours after multiple rounds of heavy rain totaled two inches or more. The wettest spot in the area was in Murray, where about 3 and a half inches of rain fell.

Christian County saw about two inches, Todd County got about two and a quarter inches each and Trigg County got about 2 and three-quarters of an inch.

While traveling was impacted, there were no reports of homes flooding in the immediate area and no reports of injuries. Water did get up to the foundation of Northside Baptist Church in Elkton, according to Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith.

Fort Campbell’s Gate 7 was temporarily closed by high water.

A Flood Warning was twice issued for the South Fork of Little River as it crested just above flood stage.

Christian County has seen about 10 inches of rain since February 6th, but we will thankfully see a break from the rain for the next several days, with no major precipitation event in the forecast.

Western Kentucky was able to avoid any severe thunderstorms or tornadoes, which had been a concern.
