University Heights Academy wins All “A” State Championship

The UHA Blazers won their 9th All “A” State Tournament Championship on Sunday beating defending All “A” State Champion Lexington Christian 52 to 40. Defense was again the big story for UHA as they held the Eagles to just 5 points in the 4th quarter of play and 17 total for the second half of play. Taquan Hollowell had a strong first half scoring 12 of his 14 points. Drew McGowan had 15 points on the afternoon to lead UHA in scoring. McGowan almost had a double double as he pulled down  9 rebounds for the Blazers as UHA out rebounded Lexington Christian 33 to 20. KyKy  Tandy did finish with a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. UHA’s largest lead of the day came with 2:04 to go in the ballgame at 15 points. The 5 Blazer starters played all but one minute and nine seconds of the ballgame before both teams subbed out their starters. Taquan Hollowell, William Bryan, Drew McGowan and KyKy Tandy were named to the all tournament team with Tandy named the MVP. The Blazer are now 21 and 3 on the season and host Ft. Campbell on Tuesday night at 7:30pm.
