Details announced for local MLK Day celebrations

Details have been announced for this year’s Hopkinsville-Christian County NAACP Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebrations.

The annual Sunday service will be January 20th at 2:30 p.m. at First Street Missionary Baptist Church, where Rev. Randy Jackson of the Belle Flower Missionary Baptist Church in Grenada, Mississippi will be the featured speaker. A reception hosted by Pioneers, Inc. will follow.

The MLK march and school challenge will commence at 9:45 a.m. Monday, January 21 at the Boys and Girls Club on Walnut Street. The school challenge is sponsored by Tom Bell State Farm and youth are encouraged to wear their school colors, bring banners, posters and anything which represents their school and/or Dr. King.

The youngest and oldest marcher will be recognized and the march concludes about 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church on East Fourth Street.

The keynote speaker at the MLK Day service will be Rev. Timothy Collazo, who is pastor of Gordonville Baptist Church in Hopkinsville.

Lunch will be served following the service and the public is invited to all of the events.
