Fort elected Governor of Kentucky Youth Assembly

Students from multiple schools returned from their trip to Frankfort as part of the Kentucky Youth Assembly Tuesday, with a police escort through Hopkinsville.

Hopkinsville Middle School Eighth Grader Allie Fort was elected to serve as Governor by her peers and got to sit in the place of honor at the front of the motorcade through the city. She says KYA is a program that allows students to learn more about government while creating bills and voting on them.

She says being elected Governor was very exciting but as for any future political prospects—she says she’s not sure that career is for her.

Fort says one of the main pillars of her campaign was the message of spreading kindness to all. She says the delegation learned a lot about government and how to become involved in the process.

Through KYA, over 1800 students from across the Commonwealth tackle a wide variety of issues, develop critical thinking skills, and articulate their beliefs through constructive engagement.
