WKU coach Helton talks about coaching hires

In an interview with the Bowling Green Daily News, new WKU football coach Tyson Helton said the reason he kept most of the defensive coaching staff was due to consistency the last two years. He added the Hilltoppers have a good young, defense if the continuity stays in place.

Helton, who comes from an offensive background, has entrusted Bryan Eliis, who was WKU’s offensive coordinator for the 2016 Boca Raton Bowl, to be offensive coordinator and put his imprint on it. However, Helton will have a hand in the offensive scheme.

Meanwhile, WKU announced the hiring of three offensive coaches today. In a news release, it was announced Montario Hardesty will be the running backs coach, Richard Owens will coach the tight ends and Chris Chestnut will work with the wide receivers.
