City council approves creation of coordinator job, renovation funding

Hopkinsville City Council approved creation of a Beautification Coordinator job at Tuesday’s meeting and approved allocating funding towards renovations at the L&N Depot.

The creation of the coordinator position did not change the dollar amount of the overall budget, according to Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin.

Council decided to move about $33,000 from the Interfund Transfer account, which is similar to contingency money, to put towards additional renovation needs at the L&N Depot, which Martin says allowed them to not make a budget amendment.

In other action, council approved on first reading the closure of an alley on East Sixth Street to the public, and approved a municipal order that changes the name of the Fort Campbell Memorial Park to Gander Memorial Park.

The park pays tribute to the 248 soldiers and eight crew members that died in a plane crash in Gander, Newfoundland in 1985.
