DUI-Murder suspect waives case to grand jury

The man charged with DUI and murder after a passenger fell out of his moving Jeep on Striped Bridge Road and died last week will have his case heard by a Christian County grand jury after action in District Court Wednesday.

As previously reported, 49-year old Trina Akin of Cadiz died from injuries sustained when 31-year old Brandon Pickett of Striped Bridge Road made a left turn in the road on the way to his home and she fell out of the Jeep that was without doors.

Picket allegedly admitted to police that he and Akin had been drinking wine together at another nearby home prior to the accident and he refused to perform field sobriety tests.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Department arrested him at the scene and charged him with DUI and murder.

Appearing in Christian District Court Wednesday, Pickett waived his right to a preliminary hearing and a grand jury will eventually consider issuing an indictment. Judge Jim Adams released him on his own recognizance on the murder charge to be monitored by Alternative Services.

He still had a $5,000 bond holding him in custody regarding an unrelated contempt of court warrant that was he was served with while in jail.

Once that amount was posted, Picket’s release conditions ordered he wear an ankle monitor and only be allowed to leave home for court dates, to work, or for appointments with his attorney or a doctor.
