Nine people will be on the ballot for Elkton City Council in November after a new candidate joined the race Tuesday and there were three new filings for city council in Guthrie and one for city commission in Trenton on deadline day.
Justin Griffin will run for Elkton City Council, joining George Orr, Cindy Sidebottom and Jimmy Scott, in addition to incumbents Danny Laster, Doug Gibson, Michael Case, Frank McReynolds and David Powell. The top six vote-getters in November will win.
The race for mayor of Elkton will be former judge-executive Arthur Green and current city councilman David Haley.
Incumbent Terri Tilghman-Douglas filed for re-election to Guthrie City Council and District 5 Constable Chad Johnson withdrew his papers for that race and filed for city council in Guthrie. Michael Smith is also running for Guthrie City Council and joins a field of eight that includes incumbents Mary Charles King, Norma Johnson, Harry Green, Pam Covington Turner and newcomer Katie Rose Covington. Like Elkton, the top six vote winners join council.
Incumbent Guthrie Mayor Scott Marshall is opposed by city councilman Jimmy Covington in a rematch from 2014.
In Trenton, Chuck Sadler will join the city commission that will include incumbent Wayne Johnson and newcomers Cara Anderson and Joyce Edwards.
Commissioner Martha Jo Ray is unopposed for mayor of Trenton.
