For the first time in program history, Austin Peay State University’s football team is ranked in the STATS FCS Preseason Poll, announced Monday.
The Governors check in at No. 22 in the 2018 preseason poll. The STATS FCS poll is voted on by a panel of 157 members, made up of sports information directors, writers, broadcasters and other dignitaries. It will be released each Monday during the regular season.
The Govs head into 2018 after winning a program-record seven conference games in 2017. They finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference, their best conference finish since tying for second in 1980.
This summer has seen the Govs earn rankings in multiple preseason polls. Lindy’s ranked Austin Peay 15th in its preseason poll, while Athlon and Street & Smith also had Austin Peay at No. 22. HERO Sports ranked the Govs No. 25 in its preseason poll.
The Governors wrapped up their fourth practice of fall camp Monday morning. They will hold three more practices (7:30 a.m. Tuesday; 8 a.m. Wednesday; 7:30 a.m. Friday) ahead of their first intrasquad scrimmage at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 11 at Fortera Stadium.
Practices and scrimmages are free and open to the public. Fans can sit in the west grandstand of Fortera Stadium.
