Rotary club gives $200k to HCC scholars program

HCC is celebrating its continued partnership with the Rotary Club of Hopkinsville, as the club recently donated $200,000 to the Rotary Scholars Endowment with the HCC Foundation.

According to a news release, fundraising efforts such as the WHOP Rotary Radio Auction, goes towards putting local students through college at Hopkinsville Community College. HCC President Dr. Alissa Young says, “The commitment of Hopkinsville Rotary Club to the students of Christian County is nearly unprecedented across the country. Students completing their education at any school, public or private in our county have a remarkable opportunity to pursue their educational and career goals at Hopkinsville Community College, debt free.”

Advancement Officer Yvette Eastham says the club is in the process of raising enough money for the endowment to perpetuate the scholarship program. She says, “Right now, to maintain their extraordinary commitment to the youth of our community, the club is paying thousands of dollars each year for tuition, in addition to the monies generated from the endowment. There are few communities in our great country where a civic organization fulfills a commitment to educate every graduate by providing post-secondary education, free of charge.”

Students who are eligible for the Hopkinsville Rotary Scholars Program must meet a minimum set of requirements to qualify for the program. Information can be found by calling Rachel Westerman at 270- 707-3809.
