Three facing meth related charges after Hopkins Co. investigation

Three people were arrested by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday on charges of trafficking in methamphetamine and possession following an investigation.

According to a news release, detectives with the Madisonville-Hopkins County Narcotics Unit conducted surveillance on a residence on Weldon Avenue in Madisonville due to complaints of drug trafficking. A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle that left the home and consent was given to search it.

As a passenger, 64-year old David Stone of Earlington, allegedly attempted to throw a bag containing methamphetamine and pills as he exited the vehicle. A search of his person reportedly revealed two bags of cocaine and further search of the vehicle turned up a bag of meth and items of drug paraphernalia under the driver seat.

Stone and the driver, 41-year old Derek Magness of Madisonville, were arrested and lodged in the Hopkins County Jail. Stone is charged with trafficking in meth, trafficking in cocaine and trafficking in opiates.  Magness is charged with possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.

A search warrant was obtained for the Weldon Avenue residence, where more meth, synthetic drugs and drug paraphernalia. A person in the home, 31-year old Jessica Higdon of Henderson, was arrested and charged with possession of meth.
