The Christian County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Texas woman Saturday on multiple charges, including DUI and assault of a deputy jailer.
According to the police report, deputies responded near the three mile marker of Cadiz Road Saturday night for reports of a reckless driver that had nearly caused a head-on collision by driving on the wrong side of the road. Deputies made contact with 40-year old Shannon Mearns of San Antonio, Texas, who reportedly needed help from a passerby to get on the correct side of the road.
Mearns reportedly told police that she had followed her GPS to that location from Nashville and it had also told her to drive on the opposite side of the road and she needed help because “the roads here are different from Texas”. Investigation determined that she was under the influence and she said she had taken medication and had consumed alcoholic beverages. She reportedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests.
When placed under arrest, Mearns allegedly became combative and an open alcohol container was found in the vehicle along with several unopened ones. She caused a disturbance at Jennie Stuart Medical Center and then when taken to the jail, fought with jail staff and kicked a deputy jailer before being drive-stunned and brought into compliance.
She was charged with DUI, third-degree assault, possession of an open alcohol container in a vehicle, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
