State chamber urges action on pensions

The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce is stepping up calls to state lawmakers to address the state’s pension crisis.

Chamber President Dave Adkisson is joining chamber presidents from across Kentucky asking lawmakers to act on Senate Bill 1—the pension reform bill—now.

He believes the current version awaiting another hearing in a Senate committee will slowly heal Kentucky’s pension woes.

Adkisson says simply injecting additional cash into the pensions wouldn’t be enough to address the long-term structural issues.

Askisson says while the state must keep its promises to state employees and teachers, the public must be protected from the pension crisis as well.
