A man who served 41 years as a magistrate on Todd Fiscal Court died Monday night.
Roy Addison, Jr. passed away at his home from natural causes, according to a notice from Latham Funeral Home in Elkton.
Kentucky records are incomplete to definitively determine the longest-serving magistrates in the history of the commonwealth, but available documentation shows Addison was tied with the recently retired McLean County Magistrate Bobby Johnson for the longest tenure.
Addison was on the court when current magistrate Brent Spurlin was elected in 2002 and Spurlin says he helped mentor him.
Spurlin says Addison will be missed by many.
He credited Addison for helping improve the road system in Todd County, noting there were still many gravel and dirt roads when he came into office in 1969.
JC Young is the executive director of the Kentucky Magistrates and Commissioners Association and noted the confidence Todd County voters showed in Addison by electing him so many times.
Addison completed his final term in 2010.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
