An Elkton man who allegedly tailgated and passed a police cruiser was arrested following a pursuit early Friday morning.
An arrest citation for 25-year old Thomas Gates of Elkton says he got so close to the rear of a cruiser driven by Todd County Sheriff’s Deputy B.J. Grayson that his headlights could no longer be seen in the rear view mirror.
Deputy Grayson attempted a traffic stop after Gates passed his vehicle, but Gates kept driving, turning onto Stokes Chapel Road.
The pursuit reached speeds of 65 mph and Gates lost control of his vehicle multiple times until he jumped out of the passenger side door and fled on foot.
Deputy Grayson chased Gates down and used a tazer to get him in custody.
He was arrested and charged with nine counts including fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment, careless driving, driving on a suspended license, resisting arrest and failure to register a transfer of a vehicle.
