The Hoptown Hoppers opened the 2019 Ohio Valley League season with a 6-2 win over the Madisonville Miners at Hopkinsville High’s Tiger Field last night.Madisonville took a 2-0 into the bottom of the second inning before WKU’s Hunter Evans homered and Mississippi State incoming freshman Drew McGowan reached on an error, stole second and scored on a single by Micah Genter.
The Hoppers then scored four times in the sixth, thanks to a run producing double by Evans and a two run single by McGowan with Cameron Hill also adding a run scoring single. Evans and Genter each had two hits for the Hoppers who had nine in the game. WKU incoming freshman Lane Diuguid in relief of starter Cam Barlow got the pitching win, going five innings of no run, one hit ball and striking out six.
The Hoppers play at Fulton tonight at 7 pm and return home to host Franklin tomorrow evening at 6 pm.
