A trial date has been set for the woman charged with arson and attempted murder for an incident near Cerulean last May.
Eric Bearden represents 33-year old Karen Brafman and said during a court appearance Wednesday that he recently received her mental evaluation report from the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center.
He asked for another pre-trial conference date and agreed with Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling that it’s unlikely the case will be resolved with a deal.
Judge John Atkins decided to go ahead and set a trial date for March 28th.
According to the original report from Kentucky State Police, the occupants of a trailer on Princeton Road woke up on May 12th to find their home on fire. There were six people inside, including four children.
She had allegedly attempted to stab one of the victims before and was on probation for that offense.
The six counts of attempted murder and one count of arson are being pursued as hate crimes, as the Commonwealth alleges the incident was racially motivated.
