Court documents reveal details on the fatal shooting of a Fort Campbell soldier Sunday night at on-post housing.
As previously reported, post officials have identified the victim as Specialist Brittney Silvers, of Jacksonville, Florida, who was an automated logistical specialist in the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.
WKRN TV cites court documents that say Brittney Silvers and Victor Silvers were separated and getting a divorce. Specialist Silvers took out an order of protection against her husband on October 9, which barred him from owning a gun or threatening his wife.
Documents indicate Silvers arrived at his wife’s apartment at Fort Campbell just before 10 p.m. Sunday. Another man was visiting Brittney Silvers and heard banging at the door. She went to the door and stepped outside and the man said he heard them arguing and then two gunshots.
The witness told investigators that Victor Silvers then confronted him inside the apartment. They struggled for the gun, and the man was shot in the leg but managed to get control of the firearm.
Victor Silvers allegedly ran to his car, but two neighbors prevented him from fleeing until a military police officer arrived to arrest him.
Officials say eventually confessed to killing his wife. He was arrested and charged with premeditated first-degree murder.
The shooting remains under investigation by U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and the FBI.
