After a nearly week long manhunt, Kirby Wallace was located and arrested Friday morning in Stewart County.
Henry County Sheriff Monte Belew and Corporal Stacey Bostwick were in deer stands and spotted Wallace in a tree line within the perimeter police had been searching in Stewart County and successfully took him into custody.
Sheriff Belew says Wallace initially complied with commands to surrender, but had a momentary change of heart before giving up.
Wallace had a gun and later admitted he considered firing on the officers.
Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson says medical personnel determined Wallace to be in good health and he was transported to the Stewart County Jail.
Wallace is suspected in an armed home invasion from September 23rd near Indian Mound in Stewart County where one person was killed and another was seriously injured. A few days later he allegedly tied up an 83-year old woman and stole her vehicle during a home invasion and he’s a suspect a fatal shooting of a man that happened earlier this week during a carjacking in Montgomery County.
Wallace’s capture will bring peace of mind to residents of eastern Stewart and western Montgomery County who have often had to stop at checkpoints to arrive at and leave their homes.
