The head golf coach at Western Kentucky University was killed Sunday morning after his bicycle was struck on US 68 in Logan County.
It happened just west of Russellville and the Western Kentucky University Athletics website identifies the victim as 55-year old Phillip Hatchett. Hatchett has coached the Hilltopper golf program since 2010.
Hatchett was bicycling with a group and WRUS reports Morris Lynn Kisselbaugh was seriously injured in the incident. Kisselbaugh is a retired Russellville Police Officer who ran an unsuccessful campaign for Logan County sheriff in the May primary.
The incident happened in the westbound lanes shortly before 8 a.m. and the driver of the automobile was not injured.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.
It is with great sadness we share news of the passing of WKU Head Men's Golf Coach Phillip Hatchett.
More than a coach, he was a beloved member of our #WKU family.
