A Hopkinsville man and a woman from Tennessee were arrested early Sunday morning on multiple charges, including trafficking in methamphetamine and opiates.
According to the Hopkinsville Police Department report, a traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle driven by 38-year old Michael Wimberly of the city for no headlights being illuminated. Upon making contact with Wimberly, the report states he and his passenger, 37-year old Heather Moore of Lewisburg, TN, were acting nervously. It was determined he was operating the vehicle on a suspended license.
Wimberly was placed under arrest and a search of his pockets reportedly revealed around $4,000 cash. Moore asked if she could have a cigarette and while an officer retrieved the pack of cigarettes from the floorboard, a handgun was noticed under the passenger seat.
A K9 with the Christian County Sheriff’s Department was called to the scene and alerted on the vehicle. A search reportedly revealed 11 grams of methamphetamine, 19 grams of marijuana, 25 hydrocodone pills and 27 gabapentin pills were located in a bag in the backseat.
Moore allegedly told police Wimberly had put the gun, which had a defaced serial number, under the seat when he noticed a police cruiser. She was also reportedly under the influence of drugs, with slurred speech and unable to form complete sentences.
Both were arrested and charged with trafficking in meth and opiates and possession of marijuana. Wimberly was additionally charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon, tampering with physical evidence, use of restricted ammunition during a felony and several traffic violations.
