Fort Campbell will be running a test of the integrated public alert and warning system wireless emergency Tuesday, April 3 at 1 p.m. that will affect those in and around the base.
According to a news release, the test will be dependent on the weather and will go to all phones connected to cellphone towers in Fort Campbell. It is a service that requires no signing up and is completely free, that will only be used in the event of imminent threats such as tornado warnings.
Mobile device must be wireless emergency alert enabled to receive the emergency alert messages some older smart phones and flip phones are not enabled and will not receive the alerts. Those off post, but close by in parts of Montgomery, Christian, Trigg and Stewart counties are likely to also receive the messages if their phone is using a cell phone tower on Fort Campbell at the time.
The test will only be done if there are clear weather conditions.
