Engine failure led to a rear-end collision Sunday night on Interstate 69 in Hopkins County that injured nine people, including several juveniles.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department says 19-year old Michelle Vannoy of Earlington was southbound near the 117 mile-marker about 7:45 p.m. when her car stalled in the travel portion of the interstate.
Approaching from behind was 34-year old Melissa Hatfield of Evansville, who did not see the stalled car and struck it in the rear.
Hatfield and two teenagers in her car were taken to hospitals for treatment of their injuries, as were Vannoy and her passengers—51-year old James Hicks of Dawson Springs, 20-year old Robert Thompson of Earlington and two juveniles.
Both southbound lanes were shut down for about two hours as the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department investigated the crash.
