A resolution is still up in the air in the case against murder suspect Anthony Moore, who appeared alongside his defense attorney in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning.
Moore himself entered a motion requesting that he receive a mental health evaluation, but Moore has already undergone an evaluation for competency to stand trial before. His attorney, Daniel Sherman, informed the court that he did not file the motion for a reevaluation because nothing about his client makes him think a new one needs to be done.
Moore was found competent to stand trial by the last evaluation conducted by the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Complex, and Sherman says they accept that result but still contend that Moore ‘lacked capacity’ at the time of the death of Cicara Chantel James.
With a mediation hearing set for Thursday—where both sides will look to see if a resolution can be reached in this case outside of a jury trial—Judge John Atkins deferred ruling on the motion filed by Moore.
Moore is facing a charge of murder in connection with the March 2025 shooting death of James at a location on Pembroke-Oak Grove Road. The Christian County Sheriff’s Department reports Moore was sitting on the porch when they arrived and allegedly admitted to the fatal shooting.
He and James both reportedly lived in the home and had children together—those children were in the home when the incident occurred. He is also charged with first-degree wanton endangerment.
