A Hopkinsville woman has been charged following a pursuit that began on Clinic Drive in Hopkinsville Tuesday and ended on Mechanic Street.
According to the Hopkinsville Police Department report, officers responded to the Walmart Supercenter on Clinic Drive around 12:45 p.m. for reports of an alleged shoplifter who had fled the store. A vehicle matching the description of the one the suspect was driving was located near the Pennyrile Parkway and McLean Avenue.
Officers attempted a traffic stop and that’s when the driver, identified as 55-year-old Debbie Elliot of Hopkinsville, allegedly failed to stop and fled.
The pursuit continued over to Mechanic Street, where Elliot reportedly disregarded several stop signs, drove recklessly and officers believe she created a substantial risk of serious injury or death to herself and those around her.
She was eventually stopped and taken into custody, where she is charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, first-degree criminal mischief, numerous traffic violations and theft by unlawful taking/shoplifting.
