Mother Nature took three games from the Hoptown Hoppers over the weekend as rain forced the cancellation of Saturday night’s game with Paducah and stopped a Sunday doubleheader with Full Count.
The Hoppers trailed the Chiefs 5-2 in the top of the third Saturday night when a storm stopped the game.
Meanwhile, Brennen Gibson homered on the first pitch of the bottom of the first Sunday afternoon and the Hoppers led the Rhythm 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning when rain arrived and halted the first game of a doubleheader.
Saturday night’s game with Paducah will not be rescheduled.
Meanwhile, Henderson was able to play Saturday and Sunday and won both games to overtake Hoptown for first place in the Ohio Valley League standings.
The Flash are 21-8 and lead the Hoppers by a half-game. Hoptown remains 19-7.
The league is off tonight and Tuesday before resuming play on Wednesday. Hoptown is scheduled to play at Paducah on Wednesday night.
The next Hoppers’ home game is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday against Paducah. Airtime is 6:15 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com. Saturday’s game is the annual “Jersey Off Their Back” auction. During the game fans can bid on jerseys worn by their favorite Hoppers. Money raised will help the team purchase or lease a new bus for upcoming seasons.
Fans can bid in person at the ballpark or by calling or texting in bids to 270-305-4350. Each jersey also will have a $250 Buy It Now option. The first fan to claim a jersey for $250 immediately wins that jersey.
