University Heights Academy took a businesslike approach to Monday night’s District 8 Baseball Tournament semifinal game against Fort Campbell at Chris Simmons Field.
The result was a 12-0, five-inning win that sent the seventh-ranked Blazers into tonight’s tournament championship game against Christian County at 6 p.m.
UHA jumped on the Falcons in the bottom of the first inning with five runs. The Blazers had four hits and were aided by a pair of Fort Campbell errors. The big hit was an RBI-double by Jackson Flynn.
The Blazers made it 10-0 in the second inning with five more runs. UHA took advantage of four walks, a hit batter, and a pair of hits.
The final two runs came in the third as Flynn drove in two runs with a single.
UHA began substituting and played many of its younger players the final two innings.
The Falcons had a couple of opportunities as they had runners on second and third with one out in the top of the first and failed to move the runners. They also saw a big inning in the fifth cut short after a runner was cut down trying to steal third.
Courtland Gibson went 3-for-3 and Flynn drove in three runs while picking up the pitching win for UHA (26-7).
Fort Campbell saw its season come to an end at 4-20.
The Blazers and Colonels split their two games this season. However, Christian County earned the top seed in the tournament with a 5-3 win over UHA in the game that counted in the district standings. The Blazers bounced back three days later to beat the Colonels 5-2.
Airtime for tonight’s game is 5:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
Tickets to tonight’s game are $10 cash at the gate.
