The Pennyrile Area Development District (PeADD) Board of Directors received a positive report regarding recent grant applications for road and recreational projects at their Monday meeting.
Alex Caudill from Governor Andy Beshear’s Office says Beshear recently announced 23 grants for bridge repair and replacement projects. Lyon County received around $250,000 to replace a bridge on Friendship Road.
Amy Frogue, the director of Community and Economic Development, says Beshear also announced 58 grants from the Land and Water Conservation Fund and the Recreational Trails Program. Nine of those grants are set to go toward projects in the Pennyrile region.
Through the trails program, Earlington was awarded $176,000 to support the development and improvement of trails and amenities at Loch Mary Lake ATV Park; Christian County was awarded around $117,000 for the development of a mountain bike skills training park and Madisonville was awarded $150,000 for the completion of the Madisonville City Park trail.
Through the conservation fund, Hopkins County was awarded around $26,000 to purchase equipment for two new soccer fields. Earlington was awarded $77,500 to improve the parking lot and signs at Earlington City Park.
Continuing in Hopkins County, Mortons Gap was awarded nearly $80,000 for a new public restroom facility at Frank Stafford Park and Dawson Springs was awarded $75,000 for new lighting at Riverside Park.
In Todd County, Elkton was awarded around $236,000 to replace light fixtures and poles on a baseball field at the city-county park and to construct pickleball courts.
Then, Fredonia was awarded around $93,000 to improve Buddy Rogers Park, install a new tee ball field and repair concession stands and barbecue pit areas.
Project funds are awaiting approval from the federal government.
